An exceptionally well preserved new old stock Breitling professional stopwatch, this reference 3'533 combines classic Swiss timing instrument design with the mechanical complexity of a true split seconds rattrapante movement. Retained with its original Breitling factory bag and reference label, this example offers unusual completeness for a purpose built timing instrument of its era.

The highly legible white dial is arranged around a full 60 second outer scale graduated to one fifth of a second. Large black Arabic numerals provide immediate reading of elapsed seconds, while the contrasting central timing hands allow intermediate timing through the rattrapante mechanism. A 30 minute subsidiary register positioned at 12 o'clock records longer elapsed intervals.

Powering the stopwatch is the manually wound Valjoux 57 RA, the rattrapante version of the large 19 ligne Valjoux 57 chronograph caliber. The movement uses traditional column wheel chronograph construction and operates at 18,000 vibrations per hour. The RA configuration incorporates a split seconds mechanism, allowing one central timing hand to be stopped for an intermediate reading while the primary chronograph continues running before the split hand is released to catch up.

The polished case is complemented by a vertically brushed caseback, oversized winding crown and bow, and dedicated chronograph control. The restrained industrial design places functionality first while retaining the finish and detailing expected of a Breitling timing instrument.

Condition

This Breitling stopwatch presents in exceptional new old stock condition and appears to have remained unused since its original retail period. The polished case surfaces remain remarkably clean, while the vertically brushed caseback retains a crisp and uniform factory style finish.

The white dial is exceptionally well preserved with strong printing, clean subsidiary register markings, and no notable discoloration visible in the photographs. The crystal likewise presents extremely cleanly.

The stopwatch retains its original Breitling factory bag and paper reference label, a particularly desirable accompaniment for a surviving professional timing instrument. The label identifies reference 31533 and notes its rattrapante function, one fifth second timing scale, and 30 minute totalizer.
