LDC Vintage 18K Gold Bicompax Chronograph Telemeter

$1,350.00

A distinctive mid century Swiss chronograph with an unusually warm presentation, this vintage LDC combines a solid 18K gold case with a salmon toned dial, traditional bicompax chronograph layout, and telemeter scale. The result is a classic period chronograph with substantial visual character and a case design that stands apart from more conventional utilitarian examples.

The salmon dial features slender arabic numerals, blued hands, a central chronograph seconds hand, and two recessed registers positioned at three and nine o'clock. Running seconds are displayed at nine, while the register at three provides the chronograph minute counter. A finely printed outer track incorporates both the chronograph scale and a 1 kilometer telemeter scale, a period complication intended to measure approximate distance based on the elapsed time between a visible event and its sound.

The solid 18K yellow gold case features elegant sculpted triple form lugs, a polished bezel, rectangular chronograph pushers, and a prominently fluted crown. The relatively thin case profile and elongated lug design give the watch a distinctly 1930s to 1940s character, while the warm gold tone complements the aged salmon dial exceptionally well.

The watch is powered by an unidentified Swiss manual wind chronograph movement. Comparable LDC signed watches from the period are known with traditional 17 jewel Swiss column wheel chronograph movements, although the exact caliber fitted to this example has not been independently confirmed and is therefore represented conservatively as an unidentified manual wind chronograph.

This example is fitted to a brown leather strap with a gold tone buckle and is offered as a watch only, without original box or papers.

Condition

This watch presents in overall good vintage condition with cosmetic wear consistent with age and previous use. The solid 18K gold case retains strong definition through the bezel, case band, and distinctive sculpted lugs, with surface wear, light marks, and patina visible throughout.

The caseback shows a small series of dents as well as areas of pitting and surface wear. These marks are visible in the photographs and are consistent with the watch's age and previous ownership. The chronograph pushers show noticeable fading and wear to their exterior finish.

The salmon toned dial displays attractive and even vintage character, with visible age related spotting and patina. The numerals, telemeter scale, subdials, and printed tracks remain clearly legible. The crystal presents with light surface wear consistent with age.

The brown leather strap shows visible creasing, surface wear, and age related deterioration but remains fitted to the watch.

The watch is in running condition and its chronograph functions were operational at the time of inspection. Given the unknown service history and vintage nature of the movement, future servicing should be anticipated as part of normal ownership.

As with any vintage timepiece, additional cosmetic characteristics associated with age, previous servicing, and prior ownership may be present and are reflected in the photographs.
