LIP Vintage Regulator Dial Pocket Watch Conversion

$315.00

A highly distinctive vintage wristwatch conversion, this LIP combines the proportions and mechanical character of an early pocket watch movement with an unusual regulator style dial that separates the hours, minutes, and running seconds into individual displays.

The elaborate silver toned dial is the defining feature of the watch. Rather than using conventional centrally mounted hour and minute hands, the layout places the hours within a square register at twelve o'clock, running seconds within a second square register at approximately nine o'clock, and the minutes on a large central hand read against the angular outer minute track. Fine geometric guilloché style patterning fills the surrounding dial surface, while contrasting blue, red, and black printing creates a striking Art Deco inspired presentation.

The dial is signed LIP in red near six o'clock. The asymmetric arrangement of the registers and angular printed tracks gives the watch a particularly architectural appearance and makes it immediately recognizable from a conventional vintage wristwatch.

Inside is an unmarked manual wind pocket watch movement with gilt plates and bridges, visible through the hinged rear caseback when opened. The movement architecture reflects its pocket watch origins, with a large balance assembly, traditional regulator, and exposed winding wheels. The exact caliber has not been identified and is therefore represented conservatively as an unmarked manual wind pocket watch movement.

The conversion case retains a distinctly vintage appearance, with narrow wire style lugs, a large fluted crown, hinged rear caseback, and substantial round proportions. It is fitted to a dark brown crocodile patterned leather strap with contrasting stitching and a polished pin buckle.

This example is offered in running condition with visible cosmetic aging consistent with its vintage construction and previous use. It is sold as a watch only without original box or papers.

Condition

This watch presents in running vintage condition with light to medium cosmetic wear consistent with its age, conversion history, and previous use.

The case displays generalized surface wear and aging throughout, including a light scratch near the twelve o'clock portion of the bezel. The caseback shows visible tarnishing and age related discoloration, particularly across the exterior surface. Additional patina is visible around the lugs, crown, and case edges.

The highly detailed LIP dial remains attractive and clearly legible, with the unusual regulator layout and geometric printed decoration retaining strong visual presence. Minor age related characteristics are visible under close inspection and are consistent with a vintage dial.

The acrylic crystal shows light surface wear but remains clear enough to display the dial cleanly. The dark brown leather strap shows light previous use and creasing but remains wearable.

The watch is running at the time of inspection. The service history of the movement is unknown, and due to its age and converted pocket watch construction, future servicing should be anticipated as part of normal vintage ownership.

As with any vintage timepiece, additional cosmetic characteristics associated with age, previous servicing, modification, and prior ownership may be present and are reflected in the photographs.
